EVA A. MATELA

Eva joined the firm in 2004.   After graduating from The University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology (1997), Eva received a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School (2001).  Eva served as the Associate Editor (1999 - 2000), Editor-in-chief (2001) of The John Marshall Law School Case Notes and Comments, had been published twice, clerked in the field of domestic relations litigation and served a judicial extern.    During her judicial externship, Eva gained experience in family law, being asked to advise the judge on matters involving divorce proceedings.

Upon the completion of law school, Eva was awarded The Francis D. and Corinne S. Morrissey Award in Professional Responsibility and her courtroom skills placed her as an Octo-finalist in The Dean F. Herzog Moot Court Competition.

Beginning her career in the demanding and litigious area of personal injury law, Eva was instrumental in helping her clients negotiate settlements while becoming well versed in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and probate.

Eva served as the Past President of the Young Professional’s Group of Between Friends formerly known as Friends of Battered Women and Their Children, a Chicago-based organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence.

Eva speaks fluent Polish, serving Chicago’s extensive Polish-speaking community in addressing their family law concerns, including enforcement of Polish divorce decrees.
